Assistant Procurement Officer

The Role

The London Borough of Richmond upon Thames and London Borough of Wandsworth present a unique opportunity to be part of a team who have been working together for a number of years in a ground-breaking shared staffing structure across both Councils. 

 

This Shared Procurement Service offers procurement professionals an excellent opportunity to expand current skills and experience due to the increased value and scope of procurement activity across the two Councils. 

The Shared Procurement Service provides a combined procurement service to both Richmond and Wandsworth Councils.  The Councils operate a fully centralised procurement service with an established team of procurement professionals.    

 

The team have 3 vacancies for Assistant Procurement Officers.  These are entry level position and includes the requirement to undertake professional qualifiactions in procurement so an ideal opportunity to start a career in procurement.  Whilst no experience is necessary, the successful candidate must demonstrate a clear understanding of public sector procurement and associated legislation and best practice, in both the application for interview (the covering statement) and any subsequent interview.

 

The role

To provide support and assistance to the Category Team to which they are assigned to develop procurement capacity and communications both internally and with the market to help shape and develop those markets.

 

To research, analyse, report on and make recommendations to the category team with a particular focus on analysing procurement spend and highlight potential opportunities to the Category Manager.

 

Working alongside the Category Manager to develop procurement action plans through the detailed analysis of spend to include: supplier volumes, commodity items, transaction costs, overall spend and proposed sourcing strategy. Obtain quotes for low-level resultant procurement exercises.
