The Role

Special Needs Assessment Service

Do you have experience of working in the SEN field with children and young people? If you have, this opportunity might suit you.

Wandsworth Special Needs Assessment Service works with children and young people with additional learning needs. Currently the borough administers around 2000 Education, Health and Care (EHC) Plans. The borough provides highly effective provision and a wide variety of services to meet the needs of our children and young people.

This is an opportunity to join a hard-working SEN service and to contribute to key areas of work. You will manage a caseload of pupils with severe and complex special educational needs. You will receive requests for statutory EHC Needs assessments and support the process of assessment and development of EHC Plans.  The role includes co-productive working with parents, young people and professionals and liaison with parents and schools about school placement and transport. You will also ensure that annual reviews are carried out of existing EHC Plans and will attend key annual review meetings for your caseload.  

You will need:

  • A good knowledge of the SEN Code of Practice
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a busy and demanding environment
