Community Safety Officer

The Role

You will be responsible for the geographic area covering the Nine Elms development and for building strong relationships with statutory and voluntary sector organisations, communities and individuals to collectively address persistent and problematic crime and anti-social behaviour. You will encourage and develop the involvement of the public through Neighbourhood Watch and business participation groups and work to deliver priorities and actions in the community safety plan and the Nine Elms development plan.

You will need strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and an ability to respond appropriately to the audience. An understanding of multi agency problem solving is essential along with knowledge of how key agencies work to make communities safer.

You will be responsible for leading on key crime prevention work in line with the local community safety plan for Wandsworth.

Knowledge of Safeguarding, Council processes as well as key legislation is fundamental to the role. In particular you must have a working knowledge of the ASB, Police and Crime Act 2014.

You will need to have effective investigative skills and the ability to produce timely briefings/reports on key initiatives and their outcomes.

You will work very closely with the Nine Elms development team to compliment their work and help them design out potential crime issues.

Strong negotiating skills are pertinent to this role and an ability to form strong links with agencies, third sector and private companies is essential.

You will report directly to the Community Safety Manager.
