Executive Officer

Please Note: The application deadline for this job has now passed.

The Role

Executive Officer

Highways; Waste Services; Parks and Open Spaces; Planning – the Environment and Community Services (ECS) Directorate manages all of this and more. To deal with this diverse remit, our dedicated Management team needs first-class support. As an Executive Officer, you will provide exactly that in a role that offers real variety and some great opportunities too.

You will be one of four Executive Officers assisting the ECS Departmental Management team (DMT). Your main challenge will be to provide a high standard of administrative and management support. You will focus particularly on dealing with enquiries from the public, elected Members (Councillors), Members of Parliament, residents, staff and the Local Government Ombudsman. These enquiries will be face to face, over the telephone or in writing, and you will be required to monitor the Directorate’s email inbox and process all incoming messages.

You will also take minutes at evening Cabinet Member Policy Briefing meetings, process Freedom of Information requests and see that complaints and compliments are dealt with. This means you need to understand the importance of confidentiality, and ideally, the Data Protection and Freedom of Information Acts. With responsibility for co-ordinating department reports too, you must be team-focused with natural people skills.

We are also looking for an organised approach, which helps you work under pressure and meet the tightest deadlines. Administrative experience is essential along with a keen eye for detail. If you are also analytical and IT literate with strong communication skills, this could be your chance to join our exceptional team.

Please bear in mind that you will be expected to work across both our Wandsworth and Richmond sites. This is because the London Borough of Wandsworth and the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames have shared staffing arrangements.

In return, we can offer you training opportunities, working arrangements that will enhance your work-life balance.  In addition, we offer a range of staff benefits such as membership of the Local Government contributory pension scheme, childcare vouchers, new technology scheme, interest-free loans on annual travel cards, discounts at many leisure activities, restaurants, shops, and other establishments. A wide range of developmental opportunities are also offered.

Closing date: 10 March 2019                             Interview Date: 18 March 2019
