Arts and Events Manager
About Us
The London Boroughs of Richmond upon Thames and Wandsworth present a unique opportunity to be part of a team who work together in a ground-breaking shared staffing structure across both boroughs. We are seeking an exceptional candidate to join us on a fixed-term contract until the end of March 2026 to be Arts and Events Manager for North Battersea, including Nine Elms.
The Delivery Team is responsible for ensuring that Wandsworth Council’s vision for placemaking is achieved, where new neighbourhoods are emerging. Supporting culture to thrive at a local level is one of the key ways we seek to achieve vibrant and successful ‘places’ connected to surrounding communities and to the rest of London. 2024 and 2025 will see critical moments in North Battersea as a number of cultural anchor tenants embed in the area and London’s largest new park completes in Nine Elms. Wandsworth has bid to be London Borough of Culture 2025, which promises a transformational year of cultural activity between April 2025 and March 2026; the successful borough will be announced in March 2024.
The successful candidate will have a proven track record of instigating or producing innovative and high-quality arts and cultural activities that directly engage local communities. You will be experienced in arts administration including contracting, budget monitoring and supporting marketing activity, and you will be confident in developing and maintaining strong relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, including schools.
We have worked hard since 2015 to raise the neighbourhood’s profile and engage local people through arts and culture. We’re concentrating our efforts to build capacity locally so that the cultural offer will be sustainable over the long-term, and supporting the borough’s wider objectives to be a fairer, greener and more sustainable place to live, work, study or visit. Attracting and supporting significant cultural anchor tenants is key to this, and nurturing these relationships is vital to the success of this role. To achieve this you will be skilled in collaboration and partnership working, excel at verbal and written communications and demonstrate a passion for culture and place-making in relation to new and long-standing communities. For further information please refer to our Arts and Culture Strategy via https://www.wandsworth.gov.uk/leisure-and-culture/arts/arts-and-culture-strategy/ and Battersea and Nine Elms | Wandsworth (nineelmslondon.com)
You will be working in an area undergoing rapid change, with a team committed to making the borough the best place that it can be for everyone who lives there.
In return, we can offer you working arrangements that will enhance your work-life balance. These include a generous holiday allowance of 40 days including bank holidays and a flexible working policy.
In addition, we offer a range of staff benefits such as membership of the Local Government contributory pension scheme, childcare vouchers, new technology scheme, interest-free loans on annual travel cards, discounts at many leisure activities, restaurants, shops and other establishments. A wide range of developmental opportunities are also offered.
For an informal discussion please contact the Strategic Lead for Culture for Nine Elms, Alex Rinsler, on alex.rinsler@richmondandwandsworth.gov.uk.
