Assistant Team Manager- Mental Health

The Role

12 month secondment opportunity

Richmond and Wandsworth Councils are recruiting an Assistant Team Manager to work within the Adults Mental Health department. The Assistant Team Manager (Mental Health) will support the Team Manager in managing and leading the team, ensuring the delivery of a high quality, effective and efficient, person-centred service for adults with mental health social care needs and their carers. This includes the supervision of social workers and community support workers within the service and acting a Safeguarding Adult Manager (SAM).

1.To ensure the team carries out its statutory functions under the Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act, and Human Rights Act. To have a knowledge of the Mental Health Act. To promote good communication with adults and their carers and within teams. This involves ensuring that practitioners maintain accurate and timely case records and share information appropriately.

2.To provide regular, formal professional supervision for practitioners within the team while being mindful of both Council’s Policies and Procedures, legislation and Professional Standards.

3.In conjunction with the Team Manager to provide leadership and direction for the team on a daily basis, prioritising and managing risk and providing a timely response.

4.To participate in ensuring that the Council’s resources are used to the best effect for adults and carers. This will include oversight of Care and Support Plans and reviews for the team.

5.To work in partnership with other Divisions and with external partners such as Health, the voluntary sector and private providers to promote a joined-up service for adults and their carers.

6.To act as Safeguarding Adults Manager (SAM) for safeguarding investigations and to chair safeguarding enquiry meetings.

•A relevant professional qualification (e.g. Social Work) and current Social Work England registration.

•Experience in a statutory social care or health setting.

•Experience in supervision, managing and motivating staff.

•An applied knowledge of The Care Act and The Mental Capacity Act and experience of undertaking safeguarding enquiries is essential alongside experience of working in complex situations using professional judgement and a range of interventions.
