Business Marketing Assistant (Apprentice)

The Role

Training that meets the requirements for registration as an Affiliate Member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) will be offered

The Economic Development Office in Richmond and Wandsworth Council is currently recruiting for several new roles in our recently established Enterprise and Business Growth Team, including a Business Marketing Assistant.

The primary purpose of this position is to support the Enterprise and Business Growth Team to deliver business communications, marketing activities across a number of channels. The Business Marketing Assistant will also support the successful delivery of business advice services, campaigns, workshops, events, and initiatives which assist business start-up, development, growth and networking across the two boroughs. Training will be provided and discussed during the interview. Due to the nature of the role, there may be some requirement to work out of office hours. This role will report to the Enterprise and Business Communications Manager.  

The post holder will:

  • Contribute to the implementation of the team’s marketing strategy and plans
  • Be responsible for the co-ordination and delivery of day-to-day marketing activities across a multitude of platforms and channels.
  • Support the marketing and promotion of business services and initiatives through both Councils’ communications channels and platforms such as the Richmond Business Hub, Wandsworth Enterprise Hub and the business web pages.
  • Create content in collaboration with senior colleagues for offline and digital marketing activities channels
  • Support the Business Marketing Officer to maintain the business-related social media accounts for both Councils, research and create content for monthly e-newsletters.
  • Review, monitor and analyse online marketing, communications and social media activities and provide insights and recommendations to the team
  • Support the organisation, delivery and marketing of events, webinars, workshops and 1-1 advice surgeries
  • Create and maintain spreadsheets using software such as Excel for project/budget planning and monitoring 
  • Maintain databases, in line with SSA information governance and security policies, by collecting, checking and inputting information
  • Help manage and respond to business enquiries
  • Support other services and initiatives in the Enterprise and Business Growth team as advised by the Enterprise and Business Communications Manager.

About you

You will be an ambitious self-starter with a proven passion for social media along with traditional and digital marketing.  You will enjoy working as part of a team and have an interest in SMEs and entrepreneurship.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Some experience of delivering digital and offline marketing and communications activities
  • Some experience in the production and design of communication and publicity materials
  • Experience of supporting events   
  • Strong familiarity with social media networks, video sharing platforms and some familiarity with digital tools such as: Hootsuite and Mailchimp 
  • Good verbal and written communications and a keen eye for detail
  • A good grasp of marketing basics, e.g. an understanding of how businesses use social media to reach new customers
  • Computer literacy – working knowledge of Microsoft Office and basic knowledge of HTML.
  • An awareness of the requirements of effective business communications and issues faced by SMEs and entrepreneurs.

Qualification Requirements

Minimum of two A Levels or equivalent, plus GCSE Grades A-C in Maths and English

This role is not suited to someone who has a studied marketing at 16+ level.  However, it may suit a graduate who wishes to pursue a career in marketing.
