Business Rates Officer

Please Note: The application deadline for this job has now passed.

The Role

Do you have experience of working in a business rates environment?

We are looking to appoint a Business Rates Officer in Resources within the shared service arrangement.

The role is an exciting opportunity to work as part of a dynamic team focused on high performance against challenging financial and operational targets.

As a Business Rates Officer, you’ll be maintaining a large database of business rates assessments across both boroughs to ensure the Councils deliver an effective billing, collection and recovery process.

You’ll provide a professional, proactive and customer focused service by responding to a variety of correspondence and taking telephone calls. Alongside this, you’ll identify any reductions that are relevant to cases and facilitate the application for reductions, as well as identifying and progressing appropriate recovery action against customers through the statutory recovery process using lists of arrears cases and case referrals.

This role can be challenging, as you’ll be managing a range of queries relating to billing, collection and recovery, however you’ll be playing a crucial role in supporting the Councils in maximising its resources to deliver the best possible outcomes for our residents.

In return, we can offer you working arrangements that will enhance your work-life balance.  These include home working (dependent on service need) and a generous holiday allowance of 31 days plus bank holidays.

In addition, we offer a range of staff benefits such as membership of the Local Government contributory pension scheme, childcare vouchers, new technology scheme, interest-free loans on annual travel cards, discounts at many leisure activities, restaurants, shops and other establishments. A wide range of developmental opportunities is also offered.
