Clerk to School Governing Boards (Governance Professional)
£36,426 – £44,139
Permanent and Casual (Term time)
Part time (1 day per week, no set hours for casuals)
Wandsworth
2x permanent and 2x casual roles are available.

Are you an experienced clerk or have significant experience of attending formal meetings? Wandsworth Governor Services is a successful and well-regarded organisation offering professional support and advice, including clerking, to school governing boards in Wandsworth and beyond.  As a result of the continuing development of the service, we are recruiting additional clerks. Can you join us and help shape and influence the governing boards on constitutional matters, duties, and powers?

About the role

You will be assigned to Governing Boards and provide the necessary administrative and advisory support to help them set the strategic direction, hold school leadership to account and oversee the school’s financial performance. You will help the service to offer a range of support packages to these school governing boards with a focus on clerking, governance advice and information, as well as links to training.

You will work completely independently with support from the central Governor Services team. Your key accountabilities will include the provision of professional advice to Chairs of Governors and Headteachers, as well as support to ensure that governing board meetings run effectively.  You will be expected to take high quality minutes in a set timeframe.

Please note, although permanent contracts are paid on a day a week, there is no set pattern for the clerk’s work; you can expect to be busier than one day a week in term time, but not during school holidays.  There will be a demand for short notice meeting cover, or longer-term cover at a designated school.  Demand will vary but governing boards meet mainly mid-week evenings and in term time only.

Essential Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Experienced Governance Professional or have relevant professional clerking skills and an interest in education (additional refresher training provided).
  • Strong interpersonal, time management and administrative skills.
  • Excellent minute taking skills and proficient use of IT software including Microsoft Office and databases.

If you meet the above criteria and want to contribute to the efficient running of governing boards, we encourage you to apply for this opportunity.
