Democratic Services Officer
About Us
Looking to develop a career in local government and governance? This is a great opportunity to support local democracy, work with alongside politicians and senior officers across all departments, as well as to provide advice and information to members of the public.
Whether you are looking for your first job in this area or want to build on your experience, we are looking for two highly motivated people to join our democratic services team. You will be based mainly in Wandsworth, but you may occasionally be required to work flexibly across both boroughs, as necessary.
These are career graded posts. We are currently looking to recruit one person at the entry/intermediate SO2-PO2 level (£33,094 - £43,785) and one at an upper PO3-PO4 level (£38,854 - £50,209).
For the entry/intermediate level position, we will support your development and you will develop a solid knowledge of the constitutional and legislative framework for local authority decision making and an ability to provide detailed advice to elected members and senior officers. You will be able to analyse documents or discussions and extract and summarise the key points. You will also be able to demonstrate that you have strong communication skills, political sensitivity, effective prioritisation skills and an ability to work well in a team.
For the upper level, in addition to the above, we are looking for a candidate who has experience of dealing with complex and/or demanding responsibilities in relation to governance processes, formal decision-making committees and queries from elected politicians, with minimal supervision. Experience of supporting the School Appeals process would be particularly desirable in a candidate.
