Deputy Financial Controller

About the Role

The Deputy Financial Controller assists the Financial Controller in maintaining the financial stability of the organisations for the future, supporting strategic projects, providing management information, and monitoring and setting revenue and capital budgets to meet the key priorities of both Councils. The individual will be part of a high performing team delivering financial support to service managers from a wide variety of different services including community safety and corporate support services.

Despite the financial pressures facing all councils, Richmond and Wandsworth are focused on protecting front line services for residents and delivering on promised commitments.  Wandsworth is proud to have committed £10m to a Cost of Living Fund to support residents throughout the crisis and Richmond is currently investing £5m into specific public realm improvements across the borough as well as embarking on the long awaited redevelopment of Twickenham Riverside.  

No two days in finance are the same, you’ll be joining a supportive integrated team that offers the opportunity to develop and learn new skills as different challenges present themselves. 

About You

The post holder will need to be CCAB qualified or have relevant experience in an accounting role in local government.  The individual will provide advice to secure effective delivery and value for money across the entire organisation and communicate complex financial issues to all levels of the organisation. The ability to work to deadlines and prioritise tasks to deliver on service goals and ambitions is a must.

We recognise the importance of a good balance between work and home life so we do everything we can to accommodate flexible working, there is the expectation that the post holder will be required visit our offices at least once a week as the service requires and on occasion attending member meetings outside of core hours.
