Are you an experienced Practitioner committed to improving outcomes for victims of domestic abuse and passionate about ensuring those affected by abuse and trauma get the support they need and the respect they deserve? 

Our newly formed Family Help Service has a stable, knowledgeable and creative team. You will benefit from small teams, regular supervision and a caseload that allows you to spend time with children and young people building relationships and building on their strengths and those of their wider family network. You will be a valued member of our team and encouraged to be a leader and champion of exemplary practice. Our Family Help model aims to support children and their families through consistent relationships and skilled interventions, rooted in systemic practice.

About the role

As a Domestic Abuse Practitioner, you will be part of our teams working collaboratively and in partnership with families, taking a whole family approach to support children to remain safely at home wherever possible. Motivational Interviewing is a key feature of our approach, a method which involves enhancing people’s motivation to change, working with their strengths and developing a plan with them. 

Your role will be crucial in understanding what matters most to children and families, increasing people’s hope, self-esteem and potential and connecting families to networks of support. We want you to be able to stick by families when they are in crisis and be involved in their lives in a way that is respectful and ethical, privileging their rights to be make the best possible decisions for their children wherever possible.

You will join us at an exciting time on our journey to be an outstanding local authority. You will continue developing in this role supporting high quality outcomes for children and their families in Wandsworth.

Essential Qualifications, Skills and Experience 

  • Passionate about transforming the lives of victims of domestic abuse, vulnerable children and their families. 
  • Ability to work alongside families and understand what a good life looks like for them and how you can work together creatively to achieve it. 
  • Skilled in building trusting relationships with people who have experienced domestic abuse.
  • Working effectively with victims of domestic violence with demonstrable outcomes.
  • Knowledge and relevant experience of having worked with victims of domestic violence in a previous role.
  • Experience of undertaking good quality and appropriate risk assessments of victims of domestic violence which respond to their specific needs and protect them and their families from harm.
