Are you an experienced, qualified electrical engineer with a passion for continued electrical and fire safety in homes and a willingness to step up to a more supervisor position? The role is the assisting of programme management and quality control of the electrical, emergency lighting and fire safety contractors throughout the borough’s housing stock.
About the role
You would be an experienced electrical engineer who is wishing to move to a role involving more inspection and monitoring of contractors. You will join a team responding to any technical enquires from council departments, contractors, residents and councillors regarding a variety of electrical systems such as fire alarms, door entry systems or emergency lights and reviewing servicing and certification documents from contractors.
Project Management
- You will be carrying out Test and Inspections on all electrical Installation systems, inspect all documents provided by the contractor following completion or request of work, and complete post inspections.
Regulatory compliance
- You must comply with Council’s procurement policies when commissioning works, requesting quotations and tenders. Raise orders and ensure that work is carried out in compliance with the 18th Edition Wiring Regulations BS7671 (as amended), and any legislation relating to electrical service and Health and Safety at Work Regulations.
- You will be making regular site visits and supervise electrical works and ensuring that contractors comply with the specifications and requirements for all aspects of the work. Attend monthly meetings with the consultant and contractors to discuss any issues that have arisen ensure that the contract is on target and compliant.
General payment systems and payment functions
- You will need to evaluate applications for invoices, interim payments. Issuing certificate payment for maintenance services contract under your responsibilities, and issue contract instructions where required. Ensure that the Senior Electrical Engineer and the Head of Electrical or his deputy are kept informed of negotiations, for work in progress and any design, programme or financial changes in projects and obtain authority for changes where necessary.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:
- Extensive knowledge and understanding of BS7671 Electrical regulations.
- Qualifications equivalent to C&G 2367 or 2357 (Electrical Installation) and NVQ level 3 in Electrical Installations, 2391 Test and Inspection.
- A certificate in BS7671 - The Requirements for Electrical Installations, 18th Edition as amended.
- Excellent communication and customer care skills, the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines.
- Good ICT skills are also crucial to this role and it's important that you can write reports and letters.
- The ability to work well as part of a team as well as on your own initiative is essential. The post is based in our Wandsworth offices and this role also requires site visits, so a full driving licence is essential.
- This is a demanding role, and the successful candidate will be well organised and able to work flexibly. Good interpersonal and organisational skills are essential.
- You may be asked to attend to emergencies and Planned works at short notice which may include work at night or weekends.
