Job Title: Finance Assistant (Pensions Finance)

Contract: Permanent – Fulltime (36hours) 

Salary: £28,377 - £36,969 per annum

Location: Wandsworth (Hybrid)

 

The Pensions Finance team has a variety of work shared in a small team giving the opportunity to get involved in every area.   The team provides financial and investment support to Wandsworth Council’s £3bn pension fund, the Southwest Middlesex Crematorium Board and the Better Service Partnership’s Insurance function.  

 

Your role will be to assist the Pensions Finance Team in producing the reports and financial statements of the Pension Fund, Insurance and Southwest Middlesex Crematorium Board.  The role focuses on promptly and accurately recording cash movements but will also include other input to accounting and banking systems and assisting colleagues with these systems.  

 

The work you do will provide the basis for statutory financial reports, so accuracy and reconciliation skills are key.  You will also need to be able to work with colleagues in other teams to get information or actions to complete your own work so strong communication skills are needed. 

 

This role is based around data entry and information gathering to support the data entry.  It does not require accounting knowledge but there will be opportunities for interested individuals to build knowledge in this area.  This role would suit someone looking for a process driven role or someone looking to learn the basics of accounting and financial reporting from an entry level role.  

 

About the role 

The key duties of the Finance Assistant are:

  • Recording bank transactions on the accounting system promptly and accurately using information provided by other teams
  • Communicating with colleagues in other teams to get information needed to record bank transactions.
  • Inputting accounting journals to the accounting system.
  • Inputting payments and billing to the accounting system.
  • Initiating payments in the internet banking system
  • Generating reports from the accounting system

 

You will have strong communications skills as information provided to you may contain errors or gaps which you will need to explain to colleagues so they can be resolved.

Essential Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Must be able to demonstrate good IT skills, good numeracy and communication and an accurate and methodical approach to work.
Have Maths GCSE pass or equivalent showing core maths skills
Basic spreadsheet (ideally Excel) and email skills, including adding, subtraction, multiplication and division
