Objective of role
Are you interested in a career in Building Surveying or are you looking to further your education to become a Building Surveyor? The Design Service are looking for a Graduate/Apprentice in Building Surveying.
The Design Service team in Richmond and Wandsworth Council’s supports a wide range of essential consultancy services to help maintain the Councils building infrastructure to make sure facilities are useful, safe, enjoyable and comfortable for service users and staff to enjoy and deliver their services to the community.
As the Graduate/Apprentice Building Surveyor, you will be working alongside the Building Surveying team whilst studying for your professional qualification. Ideally you would have some experience with carrying out measured, condition and dilapidation surveys. You will be working with a wider team of professionals from the Council who deliver essential services where no two days are the same. You will be building professional relationships and have the ability to adapt to a diverse client base.

About the role
We are looking to recruit a graduate/apprentice in Building Surveying. The role is a fixed term contract, the duration of which will depend on the course of study undertaken, we would ideally like someone who already has a qualification or is already studying. Applicants need to have lived in the UK for 3 or more years.
The primary focus of the role will be to successfully undertake a training program in order to gain a relevant qualification.
During your course of study, you would be mentored by other members of the Design Service and you would in turn support them in:
- the quality assurance for ongoing projects,
- collaboration with clients, writing reports, presentations, and minuting meetings.
As your knowledge increases you would take on your own projects with the support of the senior building surveyors
Essential Qualifications, Skills and Experience
- Knowledge of Building Surveying and working towards RICS qualification – or looking to work towards it.
- A professional and can-do enthusiastic attitude
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to adapt to a diverse range of clients
- Excellent organisational abilities to be able to balance different tasks ensuring deadlines are met whilst maintaining highest levels of accuracy.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to think flexibly and innovatively.
- Able to present opinions clearly and succinctly both on paper and in person.
- Commitment to maintaining and improving the quality of services provided.
