The Role

We are looking for a qualified accountant to lead our financial accounts team. As an active member of the management team, you will have an analytical mind, be a well-developed communicator, be self-motivated and be committed to providing good customer care. This post provides an invaluable opportunity for someone to gain experience of working for two Councils in a single role.

As the successful candidate you will have responsibility for leading a team whose primary task is to close the accounts for both Councils, including the production of the final Statements and liaising with the external auditors. Along with this, you will support the Chief Accountant in the continuous improvement in Accountancy Service through project work, and the planning and implementation of quality initiatives.

Although not essential, ideally you will have an in depth knowledge of statutory financial reporting requirements and financial regulations combined with proven experience of local authority accounting.

In return, we can offer you working arrangements that will enhance your work-life balance, including a generous holiday allowance of 31 days plus bank holidays. In addition, we offer a range of staff benefits such as membership of the Local Government contributory pension scheme, childcare vouchers, new technology scheme, interest-free loans on annual travel cards, discounts at many leisure activities, restaurants, shops, and other establishments. A wide range of developmental opportunities are also offered.

Richmond and Wandsworth are currently reviewing our pay, reward and benefits framework, in partnership with Trade Union colleagues. We are developing different options that make sure we have a fair and transparent system in place.
