Salary Range: £29,562 to £41,554

Permanent – Fulltime

LocationWandsworth Town Hall

Other essential information: Hybrid working is an option for some days, subject to service needs

Objective of role  

The London Boroughs of Richmond upon Thames and Wandsworth present a unique opportunity to be part of a team who work together in a staffing structure across both boroughs.

  • We are looking for a motivated individual to join our Health and Safety Team at Richmond and Wandsworth Borough Councils Better Services Partnership. 
  • The individual will play an integral role in ensuring the organisation fulfils its objectives by helping to deliver the health and safety strategy.
  • The individual will be of high calibre and have the ability to work autonomously with the team of qualified Health and Safety Practitioners.

The Councils’ Corporate Health and Safety Team lead on ensuring legal compliance across the Councils portfolio of premises including schools, sheltered housing and public service premises.

The highly valued inspection regime is respected across all council teams and services to provide assurance to the senior and directorate management teams.

About the role 

Key responsibilities include

  • maintaining the accident reporting system, 
  • scheduling and controlling the inspection and training programmes, 
  • being the initial point of contact for health and safety enquiries, 
  • raising invoices and journals for payments for H&S services, 
  • ensuring appropriate evacuation procedures are in place for corporate council premises, 
  • minute taking for key H&S committees and forums.
  • Initial contact for H&S enquiries:  
  • Maintaining the Traded Services service and service-related financial transactions
  • Acting as the Administration Department point of contact for the Check Before Contact Register
  • Responsibilities with respect to the corporate Emergency Evacuation Plans, in conjunction with Directorate Leads 
  • Acting as minutes secretary and drafting agenda

This role has been designed to allow onward progression and professional development in the field of Health and Safety and appropriate training will be provided.

Essential Qualifications, Skills and Experience

The individual should have keys skills 

  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Fully conversant with Microsoft Office packages including Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Able to concentrate under pressure and to short deadlines
  • Able to disseminate key information to clients when providing advice and support
  • Good understanding and interest in health and safety standards
  • Familiarity with local government structure and services preferably at county/unitary level
  • Familiarity with accident reporting databases
  • Self-motivator as well as working as part of a team
