About Us

We have a vacancy in our Housing Assessment Team and are looking for a capable and ambitious individual to join Richmond and Wandsworth Council’s Shared Staffing Arrangement. You will be a team player, articulate and organised and able to work under pressure to deliver a first class housing assessment service.

You will be responsible for assessing applications to join Richmond or Wandsworth’s housing register, reviewing Flexible Fixed Term Tenancies and talking to applicants about their housing options and services that may assist them with finding suitable, alternative accommodation.

Whilst previous experience of working in a housing assessment or other busy front-line public-sector role would be advantageous, it is not essential. To succeed in this role, you will:

  • Be emotionally mature and confident to work with people facing difficult housing circumstances;
  • Be a good listener and able to apply what you hear to the legal framework in which we work;
  • Be organised in your work and able to keep on top of changing priorities;
  • Be able to discuss complex cases with other professionals and explain rehousing prospects.
  • Be able to write case notes and assessments of a high standard.
  • Be a motivated and engaged team player

We appreciate that this may be a development opportunity for you and are interested in your transferable skills in particular your ability to assess information, understand and accurately apply assessment criteria, problem solve and communicate effectively with applicants, colleagues and agencies.

We recognise the importance of a good balance between work and home life so we do everything we can to accommodate flexible working including, working from home, compressed hours and other arrangements. Please just let us know in your application or at any stage throughout the process (and beyond) if these are options you’d like to explore. We also offer a generous holiday allowance of 40 paid days (pro rata) including bank holidays and a wide range of learning and development opportunities.

In addition, we offer a comprehensive range of staff benefits such as membership of the Local Government pension scheme, childcare vouchers, new technology scheme, interest-free loans on annual travel cards, discounts with many leisure activities, restaurants, shops and other establishments.
