Lead Data Scientist

The Role

Richmond and Wandsworth Councils Insight and Analytics team is working on the projects to fight the impacts of climate change, tackle social and economic inequalities, prevent homelessness, keep our communities safe and offer targeted support to vulnerable residents during the cost-of-living crisis.

We do this by using the extensive data holdings of the two Councils. In this role, you will see the impact your analyses have on improving lives.

Your role

As the Lead Data Scientist for Wandsworth and Richmond Councils you will scope, manage, and deliver data science projects, take an active role in implementing our data and analytics strategy.

You will

  • Plan, lead, manage and deliver complex data science projects
  • Use your excellent data skills and knowledge to solve novel and unique business problems
  • Lead and inspire the uptake of best practices for data management, tools for analyses and improvements in data quality
  • Work closely with IT, data engineers and architect, data scientists and others to identify and implement best practices
  • Advocate, promote and drive the development and uptake of predictive analytics
  • Further develop your leadership skills by mentoring, supporting, and supervising the work of data scientists and data science apprentices 

You have

  • Strong quantitative background, skilled at the intersection of analysis, data science and data engineering
  • Passion for advancing the use of data and data science skills and techniques by identifying and removing barriers, building partnerships, and inspiring uptake by demystifying complex concepts
  • Skilled coder with advanced proficiency in using R and/or Python
  • Accomplished in implementing machine learning and forecasting algorithms
  • Proficient designing and developing scalable and reproducible data pipelines within cloud. IaaS/PaaS environments, delivering data models process automation to agreed standards
  • Excellent communicator and able to explain data concepts to non-technical audiences
  • Experienced leading and managing the development of data solutions
  • 2-4 years of experience as a data scientist or a similar advanced analytics role
