Learning Mentor - Pathways - Francis Barber Pupil Referral Unit
The Role
36 hours per week
Full Time, term time only (39 weeks per year)
Are you passionate about improving the welfare of young people facing challenging circumstances?
We are looking to appoint a highly organised, confident and flexible Learning Mentor to support the work of the Pathways provision at the Westdean site of Francis Barber Pupil Referral Unit in central Wandsworth. Pathways is a special provision for up to 7 pupils who have complex special needs and who are educated on a 1:1 basis.
Main duties will include: Plan and deliver a variety of lessons/interventions (non-core subjects) supported by the Pathways Co-ordinator and the Curriculum Co-ordinator for pupils on a 1:1 basis. In addition, the successful candidate will be a keyworker for some pupils. Pathways has a strong team who work together to support the youngsters in the setting.
Francis Barber works with groups of pupils who have found it challenging in mainstream schools or who have complex special needs. There is a large and experienced staff team working together to maximise pupil progress and achievement.
We were inspected by OFSTED in December 2017 and received a Good report. Behaviour and Safety were identified as outstanding features of the school. Westdean is a friendly place to work and there are a variety of lessons and activities taking place. These along with good keyworking help young people make changes which enable them to be successful in their education. Please contact Ms Ms. Marie Smith, msmith430.212@lgflmail.org for an informal chat.
If you enjoy working with young people, have initiative and are a good team player we would welcome your application. Ideally the person appointed will already have DBS clearance.
Francis Barber is a great place to work with a friendly staff team and fantastic transport links and shops and banks nearby. The school is very mindful of supporting staff wellbeing and there are many opportunities for CPD, mentoring and coaching. Other benefits include; access to Cyclescheme, a contribution towards the cost of eyecare, season ticket loans and access to our Employee Assistance Programme.
