Library Facilities Assistant

Please Note: The application deadline for this job has now passed.

The Role

We are looking for a Facilities Assistant to join our friendly libraries team in Richmond upon Thames, to carry out a range of practical and administrative duties and help us keep our buildings open to the public.

There are 12 libraries in the borough and you will assist with providing a safe, tidy and efficient environment for staff and customers by undertaking basic maintenance tasks, routine health & safety checks and assisting with onsite contractors and the delivery and movement of resources.

You will also help with requests for venue hire by taking bookings, showing the premises to prospective clients and ensuring the rooms are set up ready for use, as well as opening and closing library buildings for after-hours events.

You may occasionally be required to undertake the delivery duties of our library courier driver, so you will need to hold a full, clean driving licence and be comfortable driving a transit van as well as physically moving display equipment, furniture and resources.

As a Facilities Assistant, you will need to have experience of undertaking basic repairs and DIY, and be able to use power and hand tools to complete jobs. You will also need to be confident using IT software, including email and inputting into spreadsheets. A basic knowledge of health, safety and fire legislation in the workplace is desirable, but not essential as relevant training will be provided if required.

This is a full time post, working 36 hours per week, however you will need to work a flexible timetable in order to meet the changing needs of the service, including some early mornings, evening duties and occasional weekends.

In return, we can offer you a generous holiday allowance of 31 days plus bank holidays.

We also offer a range of staff benefits such as membership of the Local Government contributory pension scheme, new technology scheme, interest-free loans on annual travel cards, discounts at many leisure activities, restaurants, shops, and other establishments. A wide range of developmental opportunities are also offered.

Richmond and Wandsworth are currently reviewing our pay, reward and benefits framework, in partnership with Trade Union colleagues. We are developing different options that make sure we have a fair and transparent system in place.
