Medical Lead for Health Care (School & Residential) - Oak Lodge School

The Role

36 hours per week.

Term Time Only (39 weeks)

1-year fixed term contract initially

Oak Lodge School is a mixed maintained regional day and residential school in the London Borough of Wandsworth. 

Oak Lodge School provides education for pupils aged 10 to 19 from 32 local authorities. The provision is for students:

  • Who are D/deaf
  • Who have speech, language and communication needs (SLCN)

(The term D/deaf is used throughout education and research to describe students who are Deaf (British Sign Language users) and deaf (who are hard of hearing and tend to communicate more orally).

The school follows a student-centred multi-modal approach to communication. You will have the opportunity to work in a vibrant and innovative learning community which promotes the highest standards and is at the forefront of special education.

Pupils are enthusiastic and friendly and enjoy a varied academic and vocational curriculum.  You will be part of an innovative team committed to developing language and literacy skills and to raising the achievements of all our pupils.

The successful applicant will lead a team of First Aiders and the Deputy Medical Lead in Residential.  You will have regular and frequent contact with students, parents, members of staff and outside agencies and have contacts with a wide range of telephone and personal callers to pass and receive information.

You will be responsible for the health & first aid clinics, providing advice, treatment and medication where necessary, and onward referral to the School Nurse when appropriate.        Be aware of, and implement, routine procedures as outlined in the medical and first aid policy. To adhere to Individual Health Care Plans for pupils with specific health care needs. To assist with ensuring a smooth running and efficient medical care service. To assist with organising and co-ordinating immunisations with the regional School Nursing Team. To liaise closely with colleagues, parents and teachers to ensure seamless and continuous care for pupils.
