As an Operational Support Officer, you’ll be at the heart of delivering high-quality, responsive services across Highways Operations and Street Scene. Your core objective is to provide essential technical and administrative support that keeps the service running smoothly.
From issuing enforcement notices to producing dashboards and performance reports, your work will ensure that key tasks are completed efficiently and effectively.
This is a role where you can take ownership, solve problems, and contribute meaningfully to a service that directly impacts the daily lives of residents. Your attention to detail, initiative, and proactive mindset will help us achieve our goal: delivering the best possible outcomes for residents at the lowest attainable cost.
About the role
As an Operational Support Officer, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth delivery of key frontline services across Highways Operations and Street Scene. Your day-to-day responsibilities will be varied and impactful, involving everything from managing the full lifecycle of Section 34 enforcement cases to issuing Fixed Penalty Notices (FPNs). You will also be responsible for conducting Health & Safety risk assessments, booking training and courses for staff, and supporting the wider team with general project coordination.
To succeed in this role, you will need strong organisational skills, excellent attention to detail. You should also be confident using IT systems for data entry, reporting, and document production.
Essential Qualifications, Skills and Experience
- Team Collaboration: Experience working collaboratively within a team, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability to meet business needs and support continuous service improvement.
- Organisational Skills: Proven ability to organise and manage workload with minimal supervision, ensuring compliance with established procedures and delivering high-quality support. Experience booking training, managing calendars, and coordinating appointments.
- IT & Reporting Proficiency: Confident using IT systems for data entry, reporting, and document generation (e.g., Microsoft Office). Ability to generate performance reports and enforcement letters using templates and reporting tools and comfortable working with spreadsheets, databases, and digital filing systems.
- Project Support & Team Collaboration: Experience providing administrative support to projects or operational teams, ability to work collaboratively with supervisors and colleagues across departments and a flexible and proactive approach to supporting evolving team needs
