An opportunity has arisen to join a payroll team based at Wandsworth Town Hall.

We are looking to recruit a Payroll Manager on a full-time basis to join our amazing Payroll department and play a central role in ensuring the smooth running of the department. You will report to the Head of Payroll, Transactions and Payments. 

Objective of the role

The Payroll team run a total of 12 high volume monthly payrolls with varying terms and conditions, as well as multiple paydays, thereby offering a variety of responsibilities and requiring a high level of competence.  As Payroll Manager you will enjoy managing the 3 Team Leaders in the Payroll Team, as well as liaising with departmental managers and employees, resolving queries and advising on statutory and technical payroll matters. 

About the role 

You will have a set of on-going responsibilities which will vary depending on the needs of the team.  The responsibilities include (but not limited to) to:

  • Covering for Payroll Team Leaders and Head of Payroll, Transactions and Payments during absences.
  • Direct responsibility for the processing of one or more payrolls as required.
  • Assisting in the quality assurance processes for payroll transactions and payments.
  • Reconciliation and despatch of bespoke reports.
  • Performing multiple and varying payroll tasks with minimum supervision.

Essential Qualifications, Skills and Experience

To be shortlisted to interview for this position your CV and personal statement (no longer than two sides of A4) will clearly evidence:

  • A Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals (or equivalent) payroll qualification. 
  • Experience in processing and managing high volume payrolls, preferably on iTrent payroll software.
  • A good track record in the management of staff. 
  • Knowledge of current legislation.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Previous payroll experience in a Local Authority environment will be a strong advantage.
