Pension Fund and Insurance Accountant

Please Note: The application deadline for this job has now passed.

The Role

Are you a strong technical accountant with local authority experience?  Do you want to be a key player in producing Pension Fund accounts?  Or gain experience of reporting at Board level?  If yes, we want to hear from you to join our new and evolving team based just 10 minutes from Clapham Junction.

We are looking for an Accountant for a new team created in January 2020.   The team’s work covers monitoring the investments and accounting for Wandsworth Council’s £2.6bn Pension Fund, as well providing financial support to the South West Middlesex Crematorium Board and other colleagues within the Financial Services area.

The main focus of this role would be on the pension fund accounting and crematorium accounts and financial support.  The Fund accounting is focused around financial instrument accounting for the Fund’s varied investments and would suit someone with experience of or interest in financial or property investment accounting.  The crematorium role gives the opportunity to lead on the full financial cycle for a smaller body, giving invaluable experience of strategic considerations as well as opportunities to present to elected members at board meetings once settled into the role.

You will have knowledge of statutory financial reporting requirements and financial regulations combined with some experience of leading an area within local authority accounting.  On the job training and support will be given, and proactive learning is actively encouraged as this will broaden your opportunities with this and the wider finance team.

In return, we can offer you working arrangements that will enhance your work-life balance. These include flexible working dependent on service need and a generous holiday allowance of 31 days plus bank holidays. In addition, we offer a range of staff benefits such as membership of the Local Government contributory pension scheme, new technology scheme, interest-free loans on annual travel cards, discounts at many leisure activities, restaurants, shops, and other establishments. A wide range of developmental opportunities are also offered.

Our offices are in the Grade II listed building of Wandsworth Town Hall which is centrally located in the heart of vibrant Wandsworth Town. The offices are a 10 minute bus journey from Clapham Junction, or under a 10 minute walk to Wandsworth Town Station where direct trains are 15 minutes to London Waterloo.

If you have any questions or would like to speak to someone about the roles, please contact Coral Baxter 020 8891 7247.
