Pottery and Ceramics Teacher - Penwortham Primary School

The Role

20 Hours per week
September 2021 start

Penwortham Primary School in Streatham, South West London, is seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and forward thinking teacher of Pottery and Ceramics to contribute to the development of our varied and exciting curriculum. Crafts are an integral part of Penwortham education, as the school Pottery has been in operation for many years and the current teacher is retiring.

The School has a designated Pottery room with an electric front loading kiln in a small adjacent room.

The successful applicant will not necessarily need a teaching qualification but will require a qualification or similar experience in Pottery/Ceramics.

Job Description:

  • day to day management of the school pottery;
  • teaching all year groups (Years 1 to 6) in the pottery room during the academic year and visiting the reception classes to work with the younger children;
  • planning a scheme of work and lesson plans which will include liaising with classroom teachers to ensure the pottery projects are linked to the curriculum and agreeing a timetable;
  • making prototypes, doing research and photocopying visual resources;
  • liaising with Pottery/crafts for ordering materials and servicing the kiln;
  • processing/recycling clay (no pug mill);
  • glazing pots, packing and firing the kiln;
  • setting up displays;
  • Wrapping up and distributing finished work.

  • Annual salary £27,075 FTE (£16,660 pro rata) 20 hours a week
