Rehabilitation Officer Visual Impairment

The Role

We are looking for an experienced, qualified, Rehabilitation Officer Vision Impairment ROVI to join the Sensory Service based in the Access Team.

We pride ourselves on the excellent multi-disciplinary work and proactive support we provide to residents with Vision Loss, Hearing Loss or Dual Sensory Loss.

As a qualified ROVI key aspects of your role will include using a strength based approach to undertaking assessments of individual and carers needs and risks in the community.

This will involve working in partnership with key agencies to support with the aim of maximising independence, well being and choice.

The Rehabilitation Officer Vision Impairment plays an important role in the Access team providing effective, accessible, customer-focused support in relation to sensory loss. This involves providing accurate assessment, planning and providing rehabilitation support including daily living skills, mobility training,  equipment provision, communication support and low vision assessments as well as providing good quality information and advice to people contacting via telephone, correspondence and in person.

ROVIs support independence and informed choice by providing pertinent information and advice covering a range of topics including: care and support; prevention of needs; finances; health; and safeguarding. 

ROVIs deliver and evaluate professional rehabilitation interventions to people with vision loss or dual sensory loss to enhance their skills and confidence to maximise their independence.

You should have a good knowledge of relevant legislation and local authority responsibilities in the safeguarding of vulnerable adults. In addition, good communication, decision-making and time management skills are essential.
