Objective of role
Would you like a chance to shape how we support refugees and people affected by forced migration?
Are you looking for an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of vulnerable people?
This is an exciting new opportunity to work within a newly established team in Adult Social Care and Public Health who approach an evolving policy area with positive energy and compassion for sanctuary-seeking residents. Our aim is to make the boroughs of Richmond and Wandsworth a place where everyone has the opportunity to thrive, no matter where you were born.
About the role
This is a dynamic and interesting role with an opportunity to develop your skills across a number of different areas.
Welcoming Asylum Seekers and Refugees: You will need to coordinate the arrival of new refugee families to Richmond and Wandsworth Councils in partnership with the Home Office and other government agencies and lead on logistical arrangements to support this.
Integration Support: With support of council services and statutory and community partners, ensure that immediate welfare, health and educational needs are addressed through school enrolment, benefit applications, GP registration and all other reasonable assistance as required post arrival.
Through your own knowledge and understanding of the integration process and related government instructions for local authorities, explain relevant processes and expectations in the first months of the scheme so these are understood and followed.
Throughout the programme, assist people to effectively manage their finances and maintain their accommodation independent of council support, including identifying sustainable accommodation alternatives as needs or circumstances change.
Case Management: Hold a resettlement caseload of families and individuals welcomed to Richmond and Wandsworth Councils through government funded resettlement programmes and oversee the integration journey across different arrival cohorts.
Essential Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Applied knowledge and an understanding of entitlements to welfare benefits, housing, education, and employment support to help people work towards self-sufficiency whilst ensuring essential living needs are met
Experience of providing support to vulnerable individuals and families in a situation of transition and uncertainty and promoting fairness and equality through service delivery and able to deal with sensitive, traumatised and vulnerable residents.
Excellent networking and project management skills to build successful working partnerships with local community groups, council services, the Home Office, and other key stakeholders.
Able to apply high-quality casework standards to record and monitor actions taken (individually and as a service) to evidence integration achievements and the effective use of government funding.
