We are looking for a Special School Support Assistant to provide support to pupils with a range of additional needs including learning difficulties and physical disabilities. The role is to support the whole school and the successful applicant will initially be given an opportunity to specialise in one curriculum pathway (Early Years, Sensory, Semi-formal or Formal). Please indicate on your application if you have a preference. The role is responsible, under the instruction or guidance of a teacher or class lead, to undertake work, care or support programmes with individual pupils and with groups. The support will include attending to their individual care needs, (such as feeding, toileting and some medical procedures) and supporting the classroom teacher in delivering the curriculum focussed activities and the Therapy team with the integrated therapy. You will need to have a good level of IT skills for both supporting the pupils and to access the wider school communication platforms.

A commitment to Greenmead children and their complex needs is essential, plus the ability to work as part of a team.  Greenmead is an outstanding primary school for children aged 2 – 11 years who may have severe physical disabilities, communication and learning difficulties. Many of the children have additional complex medical needs. We have a growing cohort of pupils who have Autism and additional needs.

You will be joining a supportive, enthusiastic and committed team.  We are co-located with our mainstream neighbours, Ronald Ross Primary School, and we are able to participate in some shared learning and play with them.

You will receive bespoke training to support you in your role and to further develop your professional expertise. There are many opportunities for career progression which we identify through performance management process and by developing continual professional development pathways. This includes but is not limited to, Initial Teacher Training.
