Senior Accountant

Please Note: The application deadline for this job has now passed.

The Role

Do you have experience in local authority financial or capital accounting? Or experience as a local authority Treasury Manager? If yes, we want to hear from you to join our high performing and progressive team based just 10 minutes from Clapham Junction.

We are currently looking for a Senior Accountant to join our newly restructured Accountancy Service. The team’s primary task is to close the accounts for both Wandsworth and Richmond Councils, including the production of the Statement of Accounts and liaising with the external auditors. The team also has the day to day responsibility for capital financing, the Collection Fund, treasury management, banking and cash flow management, asset accounting, and taxation (VAT etc).

As an active member of this technical team, you will have an analytical mind, be a well-developed communicator, be self-motivated and be committed to providing good customer care. This post provides an invaluable opportunity for a talented and ambitious professional to gain experience of working for two Councils, in a single role, within the successful Shared Staffing Arrangement of Richmond and Wandsworth Councils.

The Senior Accountant, potentially still studying, will work closely with the Principal Accountants and Head of Accountancy in providing high quality technical work year-round and in the day to day development of a multi skill base achieved by rotating the specialisms detailed above. The team's ambition is to be a technical knowledge hub whilst continuing to produce high quality Statement of Accounts each year. The post will also support the Chief Accountant in the continuous improvement in the Accountancy Service through project work, and the planning and implementation of quality initiatives.

Although not essential, ideally you will have knowledge of statutory financial reporting requirements and financial regulations combined with some experience of local authority treasury management which is desirable.

In return, we can offer you working arrangements that will enhance your work-life balance. These include flexible working dependent on service need and a generous holiday allowance of 31 days plus bank holidays. In addition, we offer a range of staff benefits such as membership of the Local Government contributory pension scheme, new technology scheme, interest-free loans on annual travel cards, discounts at many leisure activities, restaurants, shops, and other establishments. A wide range of developmental opportunities are also offered.

Our offices are in the Grade II listed building of Wandsworth Town Hall which is centrally located in the heart of vibrant Wandsworth Town. The offices are a 10 minute bus journey from Clapham Junction, or under a 10 minute walk to Wandsworth Town Station where direct trains are 15 minutes to London Waterloo.

If you have any questions or would like to speak to someone about the roles, please contact Alicia Attoe on 020 8891 7610 or Oliver Johnson on 020 8891 7507.
