Other essential information: This role takes part in an out of hours emergency response rota, which attracts an additional allowance


Objective of role  

Are you an experienced business continuity or resilience professional seeking your next challenge? We have an exciting opportunity for you to join our Emergency Planning team as a Senior Business Continuity Officer.

At Richmond & Wandsworth Better Service Partnership, we deliver essential services to over half a million residents, plus businesses and visitors. In this role, you will lead a critical workstream to ensure the continuity of these vital services during times of disruption.

This position offers you the chance to leverage your skills, experience, and innovative ideas to drive improvements in our business continuity arrangements. You will play a key role in ensuring our strategies remain effective in a rapidly evolving environment. Additionally, you will have ample opportunities to lead projects and share your expertise.


About the role 

As a Senior Business Continuity Officer, you will report directly to the Head of Emergency Planning. Your daily responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting Council services in developing effective Business Continuity Plans.
  • Creating and supporting an exercise programme to validate arrangements.
  • Collaborating with colleagues in related disciplines such as risk management, IT and facilities operations to align approaches and streamline input from council services.
  • Improving and updating processes to embrace new technology
  • Enhance our provision of advice and support to local voluntary and community organisations and businesses.
  • Participating in broader emergency planning activities, including partnership meetings, training sessions, and supporting emergency response.

You will be part of a supportive team and will regularly work with colleagues from various departments and external organisations. For a comprehensive list of responsibilities, please refer to the attached Job Profile.


Essential Qualifications, Skills and Experience

We are looking for a candidate with experience in business continuity from any sector. While a background in emergency planning or local authority is advantageous, we value fresh perspectives and believe you will quickly adapt to our operations.

To be shortlisted for an interview, we are particularly interested in the following skills and experiences:

  • Proven experience in producing, reviewing and exercising Business Continuity Plans.
  • Confidence in working with senior stakeholders and the ability to influence others to embrace new concepts.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to bring innovative ideas to the team.
  • A solid understanding of the aims and objectives of business continuity.
  • Familiarity with the Civil Contingencies Act (2004), and BCI Good Practice Guidelines or equivalent.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office packages, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

The primary office is based in Wandsworth, with hot-desking available in Twickenham. We typically accommodate home working 2-3 days a week, depending on the work requirements. The successful candidate will also be part of an out-of-hours response rota, which attracts an additional allowance
