Who we are:

We have an excellent opportunity for a Senior Traffic Engineer to work within the Traffic Engineering Team responsible for the delivery of traffic engineering schemes for Wandsworth and Richmond Upon Thames Councils under the Shared Staffing Arrangement (SSA).

About the role:

 We are looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated Senior Traffic Engineer to join our Traffic and Engineering Division (Group 3).   As a Senior Traffic Engineer, you will be an integral part of the team, responsible for delivering the Council’s public realm, active travel, and road safety improvement schemes. The role is ideal for an experienced engineer who wishes to advance their career by taking on additional technical and management responsibilities. The successful applicant will have an opportunity to work on a wide range of traffic engineering projects for a fantastic Inner London Borough. 

 You will have the responsibility of overseeing a small number of assistant traffic engineers and assisting with Principal Engineer with day-to-day management of projects. The job will be predominantly located in Wandsworth, however, during periods of heavy workloads, it may be necessary to cover works in Richmond.

 You will:

  • Responsible for delivery of schemes for design to project management, you work will cover traffic engineering, road safety and active travel. 
  • Experience of scheme design using AutoCAD and other relevant software
  • Manage priorities and collaborate with a diverse range of stakeholders, both internally and externally.
  • Ensure that the services for both Councils are dealt with to deliver the standards required.
  • Provide operational and motivational leadership of staff.
  • Ensure all member queries about service delivery are dealt with promptly and effectively.
  • Advise and support senior managers on relevant service and operational matters.
  • Support ways of working that ensure residents and stakeholders are actively engaged in the future of the function.

About you:

  • You will have sound practical highway/traffic engineering knowledge.
  • You possess knowledge of street works, highways and other relevant legislation and associated health and safety requirements.
  • You have working knowledge of asset management, prioritising, and programming of schemes.
  • You will have working knowledge of scheme design using AutoCAD and other relevant software packages. 
  • You will have appropriate professional qualification and/or at least 5 years’ experience.
