The London Borough of Richmond upon Thames and Wandsworth present a unique opportunity to be part of a team who work together in a ground-breaking shared staffing structure across both boroughs.

The Home Improvement Agency (HIA) provides advice, assistance and support to older or disabled residents who wisht to adapt their homes. We work closely with the Occupational Therapy service to meet the individual needs of clients, which enables them to continue to live independently for longer and access support and services in the community they are familiar with.

An opportunity has arisen to be part of this new HIA team, at an exciting time when we are reviewing and developing new and innovative ways to deliver the service.

About the role

The HIA are looking to appoint a Senior Surveyor who has the necessary skills and experience to continue the success of the HIA. You will be required to carry out full property surveys, explain options, produce detailed drawings/plans (using CAD) and produce detailed schedules of work. You will be expected to manage a number of projects whilst delivering and meeting targets.  

You will also need to demonstrate that you are able to manage and monitor the work of contractors to ensure that they meet key performance indicators, ensuring that adaptations are completed to the specified standard. Any additional works identified by you, must be completed by the contractors before final payments can be made.

You should have a proven track record of having worked in a HIA or similar environment and with dealing with private sector grants with professional qualifications or membership or RICS or CIOB. You should have a good understanding of housing issues, and excellent communication and negotiating skills. Working in a busy supportive team you will be organised, flexible and committed to enabling residents in both boroughs enjoy their homes.

Essential Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Understand the Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) process

Strong technical aptitude and understanding of building regulations

Experience of working with clients who are vulnerable due to old age, physical disabilities and mental health

Experience of preparing reports including cost projections for DFG cases in excess of the mandatory limit

Experience working with contractors to programme, negotiate and oversee works

Ability to manage complex cases as a project from initial enquiry to completion
