What if your calm presence, kind words and quiet encouragement could help a Deaf child feel seen, heard and understood every single day?

At the Willow Hearing Support Centre, Teaching Assistants do more than support learning – they open doors. You will be part of a team that helps children with hearing loss access the curriculum, build friendships and grow in confidence. Whether you are guiding a child through a tricky Maths problem, helping them adjust their hearing equipment or simply being a steady, reassuring presence in their day – your role is vital.

This is a chance to be the person who makes school feel safe, joyful and full of possibility for a child who might otherwise feel left out. It is not just about what you do, it is about who you are.

About the role

You may not hear their world, but you can help shape it.

The Willow Hearing Support Centre is a unique and inclusive setting within Sellincourt Primary School, supporting Deaf children aged 3–11 who use spoken and written English, hearing aids, or cochlear implants. These children follow the mainstream curriculum with specialist support tailored to their needs.

As a Teaching Assistant, you will work across all age groups, supporting children in class, in small groups and one-to-one. You will help them access learning, develop social skills and manage their audiology equipment. You will also collaborate closely with teachers, therapists and families to ensure each child’s needs are met in line with their Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).

You will receive full training, a comprehensive induction and ongoing professional development. Most importantly, you will be part of a warm, skilled and passionate team that believes in every child’s potential.

Essential Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Calm, patient and caring with a genuine passion for supporting children.
  • Experienced in working with or caring for children, ideally with special educational needs (SEN).
  • Familiar with childhood development and the EYFS / KS1 / KS2 curriculum.
  • A strong communicator, able to build trusting relationships with children and families.
  • Committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
  • Willing to learn and grow – training in sensory awareness, British Sign Language and other specialist approaches will be provided

If you meet the above criteria, believe every child deserves to be heard and you are ready to help them find their voice – we encourage you to apply for this opportunity.
