Speech and Language Therapists
PO4 £44,773 - £54,254 per annum
PO6 £49,939 - £60,515 per annum
Fixed Term (Maternity Cover, 9 months)
Full Time (36 hours)
Wandsworth, London
A four-year-old child walks into a nursery for the first time. The world is loud, unpredictable, and overwhelming. They do not speak yet – but they are trying to tell us something. Their eyes search for understanding. Their parents are exhausted, worried and desperate for someone to help them make sense of it all.
Now imagine you are the person who helps that child find their voice.
At the Wandsworth Autism Advisory Service (WAAS), you won’t just deliver therapy – you will change lives. You will walk alongside children and young people with autism and social communication differences, helping them connect with the world around them. You will empower families, guide schools and do it all as part of a passionate, neurodiverse-affirming team.
About the roles
Speech and Language Therapist – PO4
This is more than a maternity cover. It is a chance to grow, learn and make a real difference across two settings:
At WAAS (3 days / week), you will work in a close-knit, multi-disciplinary team – teachers, psychologists, OTs, and family workers – supporting children in schools and early years settings. You will deliver training, run interventions, and help shape inclusive environments where communication can flourish.
At St George’s NHS Trust (2 days / week), you will contribute to autism assessments and clinical interventions, gaining valuable experience in diagnostic work and family-centred care.
You will be supported every step of the way by a PO6 SLT and a team that believes in your potential.
Speech and Language Therapist – PO6
This is your opportunity to lead, inspire and shape the future of autism support in Wandsworth.
You will be the go-to expert for schools and early years settings, helping them build environments where children with autism can thrive. You will mentor PO4 therapists and therapy assistants, deliver high-impact training and bring your clinical expertise to complex cases.
You won’t just be part of the team – you will help lead it.
What makes this work so special?
- You will see the ripple effect of your work – how one breakthrough moment can change a child’s life.
- You will be part of a service that values neurodiversity, family voice and inclusive practice.
- You will collaborate with professionals who care deeply and think creatively.
- You will grow – clinically, professionally and personally.
