Objective of role  

There is an exciting opportunity within the Housing and Regeneration Directorate for a Deputy Manager in the Council’s Street Homeless Service.

With the borough’s first ever Street Homeless Assessment Hub on the horizon, which will not only provide local short-term accommodation to people off the street but see all services supporting this cohort co-located under one roof, this is an exciting career development opportunity for someone who is passionate about innovation and driving change within the sector.

Our aim over the next 12 months is to drastically change the way that services work with and support people with a lived experience of street homelessness, with an emphasis on collaboration and placing the service user at the centre of decision-making processes.   

This role will specifically be responsible for ensuring all service users are assisted into suitable and sustainable long-term accommodation. However, the successful candidate will be expected to work alongside a variety of professional teams, including the local outreach service, Rough Sleeping Mental Health Team (RAMHP), Drug and Alcohol Service and Social Services, among others.

The role will be based within the Street Homeless Service and line managed by the Street Homeless Service Manager.

About the role 

We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic and dynamic individual to line manage a team of dedicated officers focussed on supporting people into long term accommodation.  

The successful candidate will need to be innovative and flexible with a strong belief in/ experience of effective partnership working. You will need to have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal and be able to manage a team of officers with varying roles and responsibilities.

The overall job purpose is:

To assist and support the Street Homeless Service Manager in the overall provision, management, development and support of the Council’s Street Homeless Service.

To manage a team of officers delivering the Council’s duties under the Homeless Reduction Act 2017, managing temporary accommodation and sourcing long term accommodation for people who are at risk of or who have experienced street homelessness.

Responsible for developing creative and innovative solutions to prevent street homelessness and find appropriate housing solutions for a cohort presenting with multiple disadvantages and often complex support needs.

Essential Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Detailed knowledge of relevant Homelessness and Housing Act legislation including security of tenure and private tenants’ rights

Experience of managing teams providing a front-line service

Experience of performance appraisal and staff development

Ability to problem solve in a fast-paced environment

Ability to manage, supervise and motivate staff

Ability to work effectively part of the wider management team, fostering a flexible and results driven culture.
