Teachers Pay Scale (+ TLR 2(3) £6,213)
Temporary post to cover a maternity leave

There is a vacancy for an enthusiastic and dynamic English and Literacy Subject Leader committed to supporting disadvantaged young people to build their self esteem through achieving accredited programmes of learning at Francis Barber PRU. You will be teaching groups of KS3 and KS4 pupils in a supportive environment on both the PRU sites. Francis Barber works with groups of pupils who have found it challenging in mainstream schools or who have moved into the borough and are awaiting a school place.

Francis Barber is a good PRU with many outstanding features, our most recent Ofsted inspection was in December 2017 and recognised the supportive environment created.  We have a wide variety of pupils on roll including pupils who are excluded or dual registered, those undergoing statutory assessment or have an EHCP.  Many of the pupils have faced challenges within mainstream schools. Some continue to be challenging within the PRU but there is a strong staff team helping the young people to manage their behaviour within a supportive and caring school-like environment.

If you enjoy working with young people, have initiative and are a good team player we would welcome your application.  Within this setting there is scope for further leadership opportunities for a highly experienced candidate.

The English Subject Leader will be able to teach high quality and engaging lessons. S/he will lead a team committed to raising the achievement of all our pupils and helping the year 11’s to gain good results in the iGCSE exams. The exam board and accreditations offered are always under review. Many pupils also gain accreditations through the AQA Unit Awards, and Functional Skills literacy tests at Level 1 and level 2. S/he will have a good understanding of how to help pupils raise their basic literacy skills and in conjunction with the SENCo be able to plan appropriate individualised programmes.

If you enjoy working with young people, have initiative and are a good team player we would welcome your application.
