Sustainability Officer

Job Title: Sustainability Officer

Salary Range: £37,602 - £45,564 per annum

Permanent – Fulltime (36hours)

Location: Richmond Rd, Twickenham TW1 3AA

 

As a Sustainability Officer, you will deliver measurable improvements in the Council’s sustainability performance by identifying and implementing projects that reduce carbon emissions, improve energy efficiency, and embed sustainable practices across operations, supporting progress toward the Net Zero 2030 target. Working within the Energy and Sustainability Service, you will play a vital role in translating strategic sustainability goals into practical actions that create real impact for the organisation and its stakeholders.

 

About the role

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

•Contribute to developing, maintaining, and promoting the Councils’ sustainability policy and strategies.

•Monitor progress toward Net Zero 2030 and report on energy-related KPIs and operational improvements.

•Act as the primary point of contact for sustainability queries across the Council and schools.

•Collect, monitor, and analyse data; prepare reports on sustainability performance.

•Design and deliver sustainability communications and engagement activities.

•Maintain project documentation and filing structures.

•Track and support delivery of sustainability initiatives through cross-departmental collaboration.

 

As part of the Richmond and Wandsworth Council’s general responsibilities and duties, you will help improve services by following best practice standards and policies, including data protection, health and safety, and information security. Promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion is central to the role, as is understanding safeguarding responsibilities for children, young people, and adults. While your main duties are outlined, you may also be asked to support other reasonable tasks, including emergency or priority situations.

 

Essential Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Knowledge of computer packages, including the Microsoft Suite and data software packages.
  • Work experience relating to environmental management and sustainability. 
  • Ability to conduct data and information research, analysis, and interpretation to produce clearly presented reports and recommendations for key stakeholders.
  • Strong organisational/time management skills, with the ability to work under pressure.

Relevant qualifications in environmental science, energy management, sustainability, or a related field.
