Teacher of the Deaf - Wandsworth Hospital and Home Tuition Service (HHTS) Medical PRU

Please Note: The application deadline for this job has now passed.

The Role

Hours: Part-time – days to be negotiated with the successful applicant

The Wandsworth Hospital and Home Tuition Service (HHTS) has an exciting opportunity for a Teacher of the Deaf to join our creative, supportive and enthusiastic team!

A subject specialism in Maths would be beneficial, although Teachers of the Deaf with other skillsets and experience, including primary, are also very welcome to apply.

A minimum of BSL Level 2 (or equivalent native use) is required, with higher levels of BSL being desirable. The successful candidate will receive training to support them in the role and further develop their professional expertise.

The Teacher of the Deaf will primarily work within Corner House, the highly specialist inpatient provision for Deaf children and young people, alongside our other Teachers of the Deaf and specialist HLTAs.  Corner House is a National CAMHS Deaf Inpatient Unit for children and young people aged 5-18, who are experiencing a mental health crisis.

The teacher will be required to organise, deliver and evaluate learning for children with complex needs, setting suitable targets and liaising with home schools.  They will work in partnership with the multidisciplinary team and must be willing to work flexibly in a challenging yet rewarding environment.

About The School

HHTS is a Medical Pupil Referral Unit that provides education for a diverse range of students aged 5-18 who are experiencing a severe or chronic illness and/or have mental health issues.

HHTS encompasses St. George’s Hospital, CAMHS School, Community Education, Mental
Health Outreach and Corner House; the National Deaf CAMHS inpatient unit, where we provide small group teaching to the Deaf learners in our care across the age ranges.

Our students have the opportunity to make accelerated progress through personalised learning programmes delivered in small groups or in one-to-one tuition. Staff and students build positive nurturing relationships, which enable students to grow in confidence, self-acceptance and compassion for all.

The school was graded 'Outstanding' once again in the 2018/2019 inspection and is situated a short walking distance from Tooting Bec Underground station with excellent transport links.
Visits to the school are welcomed and recommended where possible.
