Teaching Assistant - Francis Barber Pupil Referral Unit

The Role

36 hours per week

Term time only (39 weeks per year)

Required as soon as possible

Are you passionate about improving the welfare of young people facing challenging circumstances? 

 

We are looking to appoint a friendly and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant at the Westdean site of the Francis Barber Pupil Referral Unit in central Wandsworth.

 

Main duties will include: Preparing and serving food and drinks to pupils at lunch and break times and collecting money, managing the kitchen area and delivering lessons in the kitchen. The position will also involve some admin duties as well as some work with pupils as appropriate, including delivery of literacy programmes. The successful applicant may also be asked to accompany staff and small groups of students on off-site activities.  Attendance at meetings and other pupil support duties will form part of the role.

 

Francis Barber works with groups of pupils who have found it challenging in mainstream schools or who have moved into the borough and are awaiting a school place, many of whom have special educational needs. There is a large and experienced staff team working together to maximise pupil progress and achievement.

 

We were inspected by OFSTED in December 2017 and received a Good report. Behaviour and Safety were identified as as outstanding features of the school. Francis Barber is a friendly place to work and there There are many positive aspects to support staff wellbeing such as free refreshments and the opportunity to have a free lunch with the pupils, alongside a great location for transport links and access to shops and banks. 

 

There are a variety of lessons and activities taking place to support pupils, staff are encouraged to develop their own skills, with access to a great CPD offer, to enhance the experience for pupils. These along with good keyworking help young people make changes which enable them to be successful in their education.
