Hours: 32.5 hours a week for 39 weeks (TTO) 8:30am to 3:30pm including ½ hour unpaid lunch break

Oak Lodge School is a secondary school for students with hearing, speech and language and communication needs with a residential provision. We are seeking an experienced Teaching Assistant with strong BSL skills to support our D/deaf pupils.

Essential requirements:

• BSL Level 3
• Experience working as a Teaching Assistant in a school setting
• Experience working with deaf and/or language impaired children and young people
• Experience using BSL to support children's communication and learning
• Grade A-C or Level 2 qualifications in English and Mathematics

Your responsibilities will include:

• Using BSL effectively to support pupils' communication, understanding and access to learning
• Supporting pupils in accessing learning activities, adapting communication strategies as needed
• Creating BSL resources and visual materials to support D/deaf learners
• Supporting pupils to develop their BSL skills and confidence in using sign language
• Providing personal care and implementing individual programmes
• Supervising and supporting pupils when swimming, including entering the water
• Working collaboratively with teachers, therapists and families
• Promoting inclusion, independence and positive behaviour
