Ashcroft Technology Academy (ATA) is looking to appoint a highly motivated individual to a position that offers a unique opportunity to work in two key areas of educational support. The Teaching and Learning Mentor will support students with identified Special Educational Needs, in lessons, so that these students are able to access their full curriculum entitlement. This role will be combined with responsibilities in our Inclusion team, providing behavioural and emotional support for students at risk of underachieving in our Inclusion base (ICAS).

The dual features of this position make this a varied and rewarding role.  The Teaching and Learning Mentor will work alongside our SEN team, providing flexible support to students with Education Health and Care Plans and supporting a range of students in and out of the classroom. They will also work with our inclusion team, working closely with students who may be in difficult circumstances, or who display challenging behaviour. The successful candidate will liaise with Heads of Year and the Leadership Group, to accommodate students as necessary and to prepare students to be integrated back into mainstream lessons when appropriate.

Applicants will be expected to have good literacy/numeracy skills and the ability to work as part of a team in a dynamic environment. They should possess excellent personal organisation and ICT skills and have the ability to liaise confidently with staff, parents/carers and external agencies in a commitment to raise student achievement. An ability to identify barriers to student learning and to develop ways of overcoming these is essential. The successful candidate will be confident in working with young people in a school environment and with students who may be in difficult circumstances.

All posts are 36½ hrs per week for 40 weeks per year, although part-time hours may also be considered. Some flexibility in working hours will be required, including supporting a few evening meetings during the academic year.

If you would like to be a part of this team, further details and an application form are available from our website www.ashcroftacademy.org.uk or telephone us on 020 8812 3553.
