Team Manager - Family Assessment Service

The Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join an established, successful and supportive team in a leadership role in Wandsworth’s only residential parenting assessment centre. As the Team Manager, you will be supported by the 3 Assistant Team Managers to lead the team as we move the service forward; whilst continuing to provide high quality assessments of children and their families in a residential setting.

About the team

Falcon Grove Family Assessment Centre is within the Children Looked After Service, in Children’s Social Care. The division is led by energetic and supportive senior managers who are striving to continue improving and developing the service. You would have access to an excellent training opportunities to support future career development.

About the role

As the team manager you will be responsible for the overall management of the residential assessment centre whilst overseeing and developing the centre’s work. You will hold decision making responsibility, and together with the 3 ATM’s will ensure the high standard of practice for the children and families using the service. The centre values high quality supervision and reflective practice, and this is supported both individually but also in group settings.

This opportunity brings with it a chance to oversee and support workers in the team with the intensive direct work we do with families. The way we work with families is creative and very hands on, as we tailor make our assessments to meet the individual needs of each family.

The role is currently full time, however we are very open to discussions around flexible working proposals (including compressed hours, part time and home working) that would fit with the service and give an applicant a positive work/life balance.  There is also a requirement to support a duty rota of managers out of hours providing advice and support to the staff at the centre if needed. There is a generous holiday allowance of 31 days plus bank holidays.

What do we need:

  • A qualified social worker with substantial experience in a statutory social care setting.
  • Someone with good knowledge and skills in undertaking parenting assessments and have some familiarity with various models of assessment and theories/research that underpin this work.
  • Experience working in the court arena and confidence to support staff to do the same.
  • A skilled social work practitioner and supervisor you will need to have management experience, ideally in Children and Families based on assessments of needs and risks.
