Treasurer to the Western Riverside Waste Authority

Please Note: The application deadline for this job has now passed.

About Us

Western Riverside Waste Authority (WRWA) is the statutory joint waste disposal authority responsible for the treatment of waste collected by the London Boroughs of Hammersmith & Fulham, Lambeth and Wandsworth and the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea.

Achieving ‘net zero’ CO2 emissions and environmentally sustainable outcomes generally are in the top ten list of issues that society faces today. At WRWA we are focused on improving performance in these areas for now and the future whilst also providing reliable and cost-efficient services.

WRWA is going through a period of transformation, developing new waste and procurement strategies as well as reviewing its existing infrastructure and, due to a forthcoming retirement, we are looking for a new Treasurer to help move our vision forward.  In this role, you will influence our strategy and strategic partnerships; support commercialisation and ensure the waste management function represents best value.

Working with the Clerk and General Manager and the Authority’s Constituent Councils, we are looking for a strategic thinker with commercial acumen to deliver an exciting mandate to innovate, improve and deliver financially affordable and sustainable outcomes.

You will be a member of one of the accounting bodies set out in Section 113 of the Local Government act 1988 and have extensive experience of local government finance at S151 officer (or equivalent) or deputy level, with major procurement and contract management experience. You will have experience of engaging with stakeholders at all levels, to negotiate and deliver best value services and challenge the WRWA and its partners to be even more ambitious for a better future.

The Treasurer is supported by a Deputy Treasurer whose role, together with associated financial services, are supplied under a Service Level Agreement with Wandsworth Council.

In return, we will offer you a supportive environment as part of the senior management team, and together we will drive the changes ahead.

If you are excited by this proposition, we would be delighted to hear from you.
