After School Care Assistant - Furzedown Primary School

Part Time - Up to 17.5 hours per week
Fixed Term Contract 
Required Autumn Term 2026 onwards

Our After School Care is growing and we are looking for an enthusiastic, organised and caring After School Care Play Leader to help lead and develop our provision, ensuring it is a purposeful, creative and nurturing extension of the school day for all children.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is passionate about play, child development and creating enriching experiences for children 
  • Can create a safe, inclusive, stimulating and welcoming environment where every child feels valued and happy 
  • Has experience working with primary-aged children in a school, childcare or play setting 
  • Can lead engaging activities that promote creativity, independence, teamwork and wellbeing 
  • Has high expectations of behaviour and can build positive relationships with children and families 
  • Works effectively as part of a team and communicates confidently with colleagues, parents and carers 
  • Is organised, proactive and able to contribute to the smooth day-to-day running of the provision 
  • Understands the importance of safeguarding and child protection responsibilities 

You will have experience in:

  • Supporting the welfare, safety and wellbeing of children through high-quality care and supervision 
  • Planning and delivering a stimulating range of age-appropriate activities, including creative, physical and enrichment opportunities 
  • Creating an organised, engaging and well-resourced play environment 
  • Building genuine, positive relationships with children and supporting their social and emotional development 
  • Reflecting on practice and adapting provision to meet the individual needs of children 
  • Working collaboratively with parents, carers and school staff to ensure strong communication and consistency 
  • Maintaining accurate records and ensuring confidentiality at all times 
  • Contributing to the effective handling of concerns, incidents or complaints in a professional manner 
  • Acting as a positive role model and maintaining high professional standards at all times 

 You will also demonstrate:

  • Flexibility, enthusiasm, drive and commitment 
  • A strong belief in inclusion and achievement for all children 
  • Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills 
  • Creativity, initiative and a solution-focused mindset 
  • A willingness to contribute positively to wider school life 
  • Commitment to developing an understanding of school policies and procedures and ensuring these are consistently followed
