Compass Midday Supervisor - Help make lunchtime a positive part of a young person’s day

up to £4,533 per annum, Scale 1D (Fixed Point, 3)

up to 6 hours 15 mins per week (12:15pm – 1:30pm per day)

Term time only

To start as soon as possible. 

This role is funded and will be offered on a fixed term basis, in the first instance.

The Compass Programme is a unique educational provision for pupils who require additional support to engage successfully in education. Many of our young people experience social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs, autism, anxiety or emotionally based school avoidance (EBSNA). We are looking for a caring and enthusiastic Compass Midday Supervisor to help create a safe, welcoming and engaging lunchtime environment where pupils feel supported, valued and encouraged.

This is far more than a traditional lunchtime supervisor role. You will build positive relationships with pupils, facilitate structured activities, encourage social interaction and independence, and play an important part in supporting pupils' emotional wellbeing throughout the lunchtime period.

What you’ll be doing

• Supervising and positively engaging with pupils during the lunchtime period.
• Leading simple structured activities such as board games, card games and group activities.
• Encouraging positive friendships, communication and social skills.
• Supporting pupils' emotional regulation using a calm, trauma-informed approach.
• Assisting pupils, where appropriate, to prepare simple lunches and snacks whilst promoting independence.
• Creating a safe, inclusive and nurturing lunchtime environment.
• Working closely with Teachers, Educational Care Coordinators to support pupils' wellbeing.
• Promoting positive behaviour through encouragement, consistency and restorative approaches.
• Ensuring the safety and welfare of all pupils in line with safeguarding procedures.

We are looking for someone who:

• Has experience of working with children or young people.
• Is patient, calm, resilient and able to build trusting relationships
• Understands the importance of inclusion, safeguarding and promoting emotional wellbeing
• Enjoys engaging young people through activities and conversation.
• Shares our commitment to helping every young person feel safe, respected and successful.

Experience of working with pupils with SEND, SEMH, autism or anxiety would be advantageous, although training and support will be provided for the right candidate.
