Job Title: Deputy Temporary Accommodation Visiting Team Manager

Salary Range: £43,545 - £52,767 per annum

Contract: Fixed Term – 24 months (until 31st August 2027)
 Hours: 36 per week
 Location: Bridas House, Putney Bridge Road, London SW18 1HR (with travel to Twickenham Civic Centre and across London)
 Other essential information: Required to work at both Wandsworth and Richmond

Objective of role

As Deputy Temporary Accommodation Visiting Team Manager, you’ll be at the heart of ensuring that temporary housing provided by Richmond and Wandsworth Councils is safe, suitable, and properly occupied. You’ll lead a newly formed team of five Visiting Officers, helping to shape a service that protects vulnerable residents and supports the Councils’ duty to provide secure, compliant accommodation.

This is your opportunity to drive innovation and quality in housing services. You’ll be instrumental in rolling out and managing a new digital check-in tool, using data to improve service delivery and ensure that every visit makes a difference. You’ll work closely with accommodation providers, internal teams, and external partners to uphold standards and reduce unauthorised occupation.

About the role 

  • Leading and motivating a team of Visiting Officers to carry out regular inspections across temporary accommodation units.
  • Ensuring properties meet health and safety standards, including HHSRS compliance.
  • Managing the deployment and performance of a new digital check-in tool to monitor occupancy and improve efficiency.
  • Investigating unauthorised occupancy, fraud, and changes in resident circumstances.
  • Liaising with landlords and providers to resolve maintenance issues and escalate concerns.
  • Supporting discharge of duty processes and promoting rehousing initiatives.
  • Responding to complaints, FOIs, and member enquiries with professionalism and accuracy.
  • Collaborating with internal teams to deliver coordinated support for residents. 

Essential Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Proven experience managing and developing a customer-focused team.
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • Homeless legislation, including Section 193(5) of the Housing Act 1996.
    • Landlord and Tenant law.
    • Housing Act 2004 and HHSRS standards.
  • Experience conducting property inspections and working with landlords and providers.
  • Ability to analyse data, manage performance, and present insights to senior stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication and mediation skills, especially when working with vulnerable individuals.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail in record-keeping and budget management.
  • A proactive, problem-solving mindset and adaptability to changing priorities.
  • Willingness to travel across London and work flexibly, including outside normal hours when needed.
