The South London Partnership (SLP) is a collaboration of boroughs including Croydon, Kingston, Merton, Richmond, Sutton and for this project Wandsworth. The SLP seeks to build on strengths of South London as a place for people to live, work and thrive. One of the innovate schemes formed from the partnership working will be the Mayor’s Construction Academy Hub. The Mayors Construction Academy Hub will support people and businesses connect to skills, employment and training in the construction sector across south London.

In line with SLP current priorities we are looking to support the construction sector in south London through the work of the Mayors Construction Hub. The construction sector is a major contributor to the South London economy and will help the area bounce back after the challenges of the pandemic. Before COVID-19, construction accounted for 5% of jobs in south London and generated some £2.2 billion for the UK economy.  Despite the challenges of the pandemic, construction is still forecast to grow, delivering 2,700 additional jobs by 2030.

This Mayor’s Construction Academy Hub Engagement and Inclusion Officer will be responsible for engaging a wide range of residents and increasing the awareness of career and employment opportunities within the construction sector.

The Mayors Construction Academy Engagement and Inclusion Officer will be required too:

  • Develop a pipeline of people skilled and prepared to work in the construction industry.  You will have a specific focus on increasing the number of women and people from ethnic minority backgrounds working in the construction industry.
  • You will develop and deliver, with key stakeholders, innovative virtual and face to face events and other career and job focused activities. 
  • You will be responsible for producing effective and creative marketing and promotional materials to raise awareness of the MCA Hub and the opportunities the Hub offers, to maximise the engagement of diverse and harder to reach beneficiaries.

You will have the following skills and attributes:

  • Experience of using social media and virtual and digital solutions to engage communities and organisations from across the area. 
  • Strong communicator and have experience of working with multiple organisations and key stakeholders such as schools, colleges, JCPs, community and voluntary sector. 
  • You will work with the MCA Hub Co-ordinators, job brokerage services and wider partners to help link people to good quality job and apprenticeships in construction.
