Hub Co-ordinator (Mayor’s Construction Academy)

The South London Partnership (SLP) is a collaboration of boroughs including Croydon, Kingston, Merton, Richmond, Sutton and for this project Wandsworth. The SLP seeks to build on strengths of South London as a place for people to live, work and thrive. One of the innovate schemes formed from the partnership working will be the Mayor’s Construction Academy Hub. The Mayors Construction Academy Hub will support people and businesses connected to skills, employment training and the construction sector across south London.

In line with SLP current priorities we are looking to support the construction sector in south London through the work of the Mayors Construction Hub. The construction sector is a major contributor to the South London economy and will help the area bounce back after the challenges of the pandemic. Before COVID-19, construction accounted for 5% of jobs in south London and generated some £2.2 billion for the UK economy.  Despite the challenges of the pandemic, construction is still forecast to grow, delivering 2,700 additional jobs by 2030.

Mayor’s Construction Academy Hub Coordinator will be one of the main contacts for local developers, construction businesses and job brokerage services in the area. 

The Mayors Construction Academy Hub Coordinator will be required too:

  • Identify job vacancies, apprenticeship, traineeships within South London.
  • Seek work experience opportunities in construction.
  • Find suitable training opportunities for people looking to get into the construction workforce.
  • Work with the MCA Hub Manager to map out the skills needs across the area and help to create and develop new training opportunities in construction.
  • Work with the MCA Hub Engagement & Inclusion Officer to engage and build a pipeline of trained construction workers, with a specific focus on increasing the number of women and people from ethnic minority backgrounds working in the construction industry.

You will have the following skills and attributes:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, in a wide variety of contexts and at different levels.
  • Ideally experience of working in the construction and skills sector.   
  • Ability to prioritise and schedule effectively to manage a dynamic workload and meet internal and external deadlines to balance competing priorities.
  • Effective project co-ordination skills which ensure you can manage multiple projects with multiple deadlines.
