The Role

 

Literacy and Reading Learning Mentor

(with responsibilities for the literacy and/or numeracy programmes)

36 hours per week

Full Time

Term time only (39 weeks)

Required as soon as possible – September 2021

The Role

Two posts are available for experienced and flexible Learning Mentors to work at the Francis Barber Pupil Referral Unit.

This is a varied and interesting role. The successful candidate will work alongside the English department in providing a high impact learning experience for our pupils. The role will include leading timetabled literacy /reading lessons for KS3 and KS4 pupils in a small group or 1:1 basis.

The post holder will assist with coordinating literacy resources and reading enrichment events and will support the literacy development of all learners across the school, leading to the very best outcomes.

In some cases, similar support with numeracy programmes may be required.

Good communication, organisational, flexibility and interpersonal skills are essential for this position. Key skills required include: the ability to diffuse challenging situations; help the pupils understand the barriers they have to learning and being able to encourage students to put strategies in place which enable them to become successful. Training will be provided.

About Us

Francis Barber PRU is a successful PRU in Wandsworth with a team of highly dedicated staff.  We provide education for a wide variety of pupils whom have had difficulty maintaining a mainstream school provision. We have an excellent success rate of returning pupils to special and mainstream schools and post 16 college placements.

Francis Barber PRU was inspected by OFSTED in Dec 2017 and received a GOOD report. There were many outstanding features including “The effectiveness of care, guidance and support”. The person appointed will have experience of inclusion work with challenging pupils. It is very important that when writing their supporting statement applicants clearly identify how they meet the person specification.
